Britney Spears, former American sweetheart and current Vegas headliner, has had a roller coaster of a life. From her double denim days of dating Justin Timberlake to her public breakdown and subsequent head shaving, her fans have seen her go through extreme highs and lows in her career. No wonder her newest hobby, painting, is garnering fan support — even if her artwork won’t end up in the MoMA anytime soon.
Britney Spears may be a recording artist, but she’s no fine artist, and that’s okay. Art isn’t about a finely-polished finished product all the time. The act of creating art is incredibly therapeutic, and there shouldn’t be any barrier to creating it. Seeing Britney looking healthy, happy, and playing with paint is a gift to her fans and followers around the world.
If it weren’t enough for her to simply be painting, however, Britney is also doing good with each brushstroke. Already a frequent donor to children’s cancer centers, flood victims, and other charities, no one could accuse Britney of being stingy. However, she recently helped again, donating one of her watercolor paintings to the Vegas Cares auction to benefit the victims of the recent shooting. The auctioneer himself, former “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” host Robin Leach, made a $10,000 donation to take this painting home. This money will go directly toward supporting victims, and we can feel confident that Leach will love looking at this happy floral piece in his home. As Britney herself said, “The flowers in my painting represent a new beginning, and it’s in that spirit that we move forward.” So if there are any art critics out there, leave Britney alone!
