Bloggers everywhere predicted a resurgence in popular rock bands and a renewed interest in rock music last year – and that certainly seems to be the case. As we near the first-half of 2016, we’re taking a closer look at the top rock bands dominating the Billboard 200 this week.
“A Moon Shaped Pool” is the chart’s hot top debut at #3, representing Radiohead’s ninth studio album. The band started working on the album in 2014 and changed musical direction in 2015, finally releasing it digitally this year.
Prince and the Revolution
There’s been huge demand for Prince’s work following his tragic and untimely death this year. Both “Purple Rain Soundtrack” and “Around the World in a Day” have appeared at the top of the music charts in recent weeks.
Twenty One Pilots
“Blurryface” and “Vessel” spent 52 and 91 weeks on the Billboard 200 music charts. The young bandmates are off to a good start!
Panic! At The Disco
Despite experiencing a change of lineups and departures, this pop rock band has managed to sustain itself with two entries on the Billboard 200: “Death of a Bachelor” and “Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!”
Goo Goo Dolls
“Boxes” is Goo Goo Dolls eleventh studio album, released on May 6, 2016. Since their 1987 album debut, the band has been nominated for several Grammy Awards and took home the ASCAP Pop Awards and Radio Music Awards on multiple occasions.
Guns N’ Roses
“The most dangerous band in the world” hasn’t released a new studio album since 2008 but still remained on the Billboard 200 for 352 weeks. This proves their reputation as one of the world’s best rock bands just behind The Beatles.
Still radioactive? The 2013 album debut of “Night Visions” (including the hit single “Radioactive”) along with their follow-up studio album “Smoke + Mirrors,” remains on the Billboard 200 music chart—for 193 weeks and 63 weeks and counting.
Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy isn’t your typical rock band. Their music spans multiple genres: pop punk, pop rock, alternative rock and pop music. The band’s 2015 hit “American Beauty/American Psycho” marked the group’s fifth consecutive top 10 album and their third No. 1 album. It has remained on the Billboard 200 for 69 weeks.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Which rock band has achieved the moniker as the most successful alternative rock group? Holding the record for having the most number one singles, selling over 80 million records worldwide, receiving sixteen Grammy Award nominations and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of the best bands in the world. No wonder their album, “Greatist Hits,” has been on the Billboard 200 for 83 weeks.
Five years hasn’t dented the position of “Back in Black” on the Billboard 200 music chart. AC/DC has a worldwide reputation as one of the best rock bands of all time.
