Hollywood is readying audiences for another franchise reboot. Universal Studios plans to release a new edition of “The Mummy.” Instead of featuring Brendan Fraser or any characters from the previous trilogy, the company wants Tom Cruise to play the main character. Plot details are still fuzzy, but producers (Alex Kurtzman, Chris Morgan, and Sean Daniel) are placing the story line in the present—instead of the early 20th century. There’s also confirmation about the terrifying mummy villain role: actress Sofia Boutella (“Kingman: The Secret Service,” “Star Trek: Beyond”).

Universal Studios will also integrate other characters from its classic films library. The movie studio wants to create cinema flicks for Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, etc.—and culminate with an Avengers-style integration project (think “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”).
